Cellphone Video FAQs

Will my cellphone work?	If you can shoot a video with your cellphone and email it to your computer, then you should be able to email these videos to your cellphone. See Cellphone Video Formats
Size	These video clips are each 176 by 144 pixels in size. THe file size of each video is about 300 Kbytes except the VBR format is a little smaller. These videos are between about 15 and 30 seconds in length.
What are compression algorithms?	A compression algorithm is used to make a video fit into a small file size and maintain reasonable video quality. The H264 compression algorithm is the newest and produces the highest quality. The H263 compression algorithm produces lower quality than Mpeg4 and VBR.
How do the cellphone videos compare to those on these Web pages?	These videos are the same size--same pixels, number of seconds and size of file. The videos on these web pages use a different compression algorithm (Sorenson 3) but the quality is similar. The only real difference is that the cellphone videos don't have the watermark words over the image.
Why some formats don't play?	GSM networks and CMDA networks use different video formats. You need only try the videos under the column for your cell phone network. Your phone will probably not recognize all the compression algorithms. You need to find one which your phone will play (H264, Mpeg4, VBR or H263).

Why the video file on my cellphone is smaller than what I downloaded?	Your cellphone may not be able to play at the bit rate the video was recorded at. Your phone saved only as much of the file as it could play. If the file is a lot smaller, the video quality will be lowered. If you have this problem then choose videos that are at least 20 seconds long. The VBR compression (variable bit rate Mpeg4) will do the best under these circumstances.
